Need an Opinion!

Here's the deal. I'm working on this quilt that is very simple and modern. In the negative space (background) I've machine quilted parallel lines one inch apart. I wanted to add a touch of hand quilting as is becoming my norm. I seem to be doing perle cotton hand quilting on everything these days!

I decided to put a line of hand quilting between every other space in the machine quilting:

I completed a section like this and didn't love the look. After sleeping on it, yesterday I decided to add a cross to each stitch:

I ended up completing the section like this and I think I like it. Maybe it adds to the modern feel?

What do you think? Do you like the crosses or not? Need some honest input!

This "sans crosses" quilt looks smooth and more contemporary to me. I want to run my hands across it. The other goes more toward "art" which may be what you want.

With only seeing a small bit of the quilt, I prefer no crosses. However, the crosses may work better with the whole quilt. Personally, I love crosses in general and use them often when I hand quilt.

I like the straight hand quilting but maybe seeing the whole quilt would be different.

I like the crosses. It's more work, but it really adds interest. The running stitch is a nice clean look, but you can "take it in" in an instant. The crosses keep your eye roaming, and it has a very charming look. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

I like the crosses and recently used a similar quilting motif in a table scarf. mlwright29(at)hotmail(dot)com
